Aria Digital installed a 3.5m x 2m outdoor P2.6mm LED screen on the wall of Taronga Zoo's new animal hospital, giving visitors a live window into veterinary care that's normally hidden from view. The screen streams live surgery vision, plays educational content on how the hospital operates, and doubles as a presentation screen for tours and events.

The Challenge

As part of the build of its new wildlife hospital, Taronga Zoo wanted a way to bring visitors into a part of the zoo they'd never normally see. Animal hospitals operate behind closed doors for good reason, but the zoo still wanted to educate the public on the veterinary care happening on site, without compromising the animals or the clinical work itself. A standard sign or static display wouldn't do justice to something this dynamic, and the zoo also needed the screen to double as a functional presentation tool for tours and events.

The Solution

Aria Digital installed a 3.5m x 2m outdoor-rated LED screen on the wall of the new animal hospital, built using P2.6mm pitch LED for sharp detail and vivid colour reproduction even at close viewing distances. Because the screen sits outdoors and is viewed by the public year-round, it was specified to handle Sydney's weather and lighting conditions while maintaining picture quality throughout the day.

The screen was integrated to serve three purposes: playing educational content on how the animal hospital operates, streaming live vision from selected surgeries so visitors can watch real veterinary procedures as they happen, and functioning as a large-format presentation screen for guided tours and zoo events.

The Results

The installation gives Taronga Zoo a permanent, flexible piece of infrastructure rather than a one-off display. Visitors get a genuine window into the veterinary side of the zoo's work, something that would otherwise be entirely hidden from public view. The live streaming capability turns routine procedures into an educational moment, and the same screen supports the zoo's broader events and tour program without needing separate equipment brought in each time.
